This comic by Max Landis about Mickey Mouse having a mid-life crisis is kind of wonderful.
You should totally read this
Sure, it’s crass. There’s a lot of swearing, drinking, sex humor and so on. At first glance, I expecting this to be another case of portraying childhood characters in adult situations just for shits and giggles.
But it’s actually a lot more than that. They’re actually really…human.
The concept of this is to take Mickey, Donald and Goofy out of their on-screen G-rated personas, and show what they might be like “off-screen.” They’re a trio of guys, hanging out like guys, confiding in each other and having fun.
And then you have Mickey pondering where he is in his life. You’d expect that to be really dark and sad, but…it’s actually really heartwarming.
So, no. This isn’t some “edgy” attempt at besmirching Mickey Mouse’s name or painting him as some sort of corporate asshole.
It’s actually really appealing, in my opinion.
More like a love letter to Disney than a “fuck the corporate machine” type thing.
This was fantastic, probably one of the best reads I’ve had in a while. The concept is great and the style is unique. If you have 10 minutes to spare go check it out.
